The PEP Study has concluded and is no longer enrolling new participants.

Purpose of the study:

The purpose of the PEP Study was to learn more about positive affect expressed in preschool-age children, and how this is related to maternal history of depression.

Eligibility criteria:

• Child enrolled in study is between 3 and 5 years old at time of study entry
• Mother enrolled in study is the biological mother of child enrolled in study
• Mother enrolled in study has no history of mania or psychotic symptoms

What to expect:

Eligible participants completed one in-person lab visit that was approximately one hour in duration. Child participants engaged in various play tasks, and mother participants completed questionnaires regarding their child's behavior, demographics, parenting techniques, and the psychiatric history of both themselves and their child. Participants in the PEP Study were financially compensated for their participation.
